Spring 2021

Welcome back!

In preparation for making the most of the Spring 2021 semester, grab some coffee/tea/hot chocolate and your calendar. Take a look at what’s in store, and please let us know if you have any questions.

Virginia Counselors Association Convention, November 2020

Congratulations to all who presented at the VCA Convention in November. JMU was well represented. Presenters from JMU included: Elizabeth Armstrong, Kelly Atwood, Kevin Doyle, Lennie Echterling, Briana Gaines, Tammy Gilligan, Darius Green, Michele Kielty, Joe LeBlanc, John Rogers, Renee Staton, and Anne Stewart. Given the relatively new online format for this particular convention, it was a successful event!

Congratulations!

Stephanie Chalk was awarded her Ph.D. at JMU’s December Commencement Ceremony. Her dissertation title was “Posttraumatic Growth During COVID-19: A Quantitative Analysis of Individualist and Collectivist Values.” Congratulations, Dr. Chalk!

Karli Fleitas has been selected for the Association for Humanistic Counseling Emerging Leaders Program. She will also be presenting at the VACES Conference in February.

Melissa Hunt Kee, Emily Shank, and Rachel Wilson successfully presented their EdS projects during the Fall 2020 semester.

With mixed emotions…

we are sharing the news that Lennie has decided to retire from JMU, beginning September 1, 2021, in order to spend more time with his family and, we suspect, continue to serve and support the community at large. We know there will be many opportunities to celebrate and honor Lennie’s work, presence, and contributions, but we wanted to get this word out to you now. We know you will join us in wishing Lennie a long, healthy, and joyful retirement. We’ll keep you posted about the ways in which all of us can express our gratitude and good wishes!
